and as an aside, I had a problem with a friend's e-mail a few years back where my provider* flagged her provider as spam and was heading it off so I'm wondering if that may/might be the case here as well

Email problems are notoriously hard to resolve because there are SO many places (most of which are out of our hands) where they could snag. I'll see if you're on the opt-out list, but I know the emails go out to all who are subscribed; after that, there's very little we can do.
