If you had planned a 12 segments award ticket, I am not sure why would you want to risk one or more of your segments getting messed up ?

First is the risk of getting the rest of the segments all cancelled, second since you planned 12 segments, I would assume you had constructed your itnerary that way either to go to many places or sampling different airlines. Do you really want to jeopardize your time consuming carefully constructed 12 segments itnerary ?
