As to equipment, the flight seems to be frequently relatively full, so I guess it's possible but improbable that the aircraft would switch although I'm not certain how much slack there is in the 744 fleet at the moment.
As far as times go, in the near future there are no changes planned.
China Eastern (MU) operates a hub at PVG. So there should still be a number of connecting opportunities.
DTW-PVG seems unlikely to use a 744 anytime soon given how busy those planes are this summer. It's worth noting that DL offers other ways to get to PVG (via NRT, and via SEA this week) while if you want to get to ICN on DL metal your only option is via DTW.
