not had that kind of conversation with a boss out in the real world.
If your company has a J travel policy, great. But for those like the OP (and me) who don't, that attitude will not get us very far up our corporate ladders. So you have to do what OP is doing -- a combination of finding more subtle ways to persuade the company to change its mind while making do with whatever the policy is in the meantime.
