Missing connection (own fault) on an award ticket

What happens if I miss a connection (due to my own fault) on an award ticket. I am planning a trip using all 12 segments and a couple are the <24 hour stopovers in cities. What happens if I don't make it back to the airport in time? Will I have to pay for rebooking?
