I doubt it does but then at BOM on my last trip, I was op-uped during check-in. I had checked-in online but I guess my recent status as Platinum had more to do with that rather than checking in online.

No it does not - it seems to me to be a software glitch. I've seen it happening on every flight I've taken in the last 3-4 months where my onward connection from DXB shows the seat as 'none' one the first screen when I begin to check-in online, though the proper seat appears back during seat selection during online check in and thereafter.
