Vlntn - speed of reply doesn't necessarily equate to accuracy of information! I have to agree with
m0hamed; the second paragraph of
wfmk's post bears absolutely no resemblance to reality.
Writing as someone who departs CAI on average once/month (the majority from T1 - the terminal used by EY) you neither have to 'bribe a porter' or give the security guy a cut - this is just complete and utter nonsense. Just ignore anyone who approaches you shouting 'Etihad?' and you'll be fine.
I do, however, agree that CAI T1 lounges are a major disappointment.
What you should be aware of is that departing EY flights do not use the main CAI T1 entrance (on the right of the building as you face it), but a smaller entrance to the left - just to the right of the arrivals exit. You may find EY Y passengers attempting to use the EY J check-in, but if you catch the eye of the J check-in staff they will wave you towards them.
You should also be aware that at that time of day the car journey from downtown Cairo to the airport will probably take at least one hour (compared to 20-25 minutes in the morning). Possible religious pilgrim flights to Saudi Arabia aside CAI is currently a great deal quieter since Q1 2011.
EY CAI-AUH J in-flight service is excellent, with a full meal and drinks service. The AUH-BKK in-flight experience is equally good. But then my wife and I are huge fans of EY.
