I don't really understand why, but I like the Motel 6 brand and think it has potential. I've had some good, and some really awful stays at the brand and realize there's a great deal of work that needs to be put into the brand, but I found that it fills a need in my travels (a cheap place for a few hours to sleep on a car trip). I think there is a need for Motel 6 (and Red Roof Inn, Choice Hotels, and other economy hotels) but upgrades need to be implemented. Motel 6 currently appeals to the value conscience but the quality is low and the brand is inconsistent.
About a year ago Blackstone, which owns Hilton and La Quinta, purchased Motel 6 from Accor (article link is below). There was speculation on Hilton using Motel 6 as its new economy brand, as Hilton's economy brands were moving upmarket. So far that speculation has been rumors and seems unlikely (La Quinta would be a far better alternative for Hilton, IMHO), but that doesn't rule out Blackstone building the Motel 6 brand and selling it to a larger hotel chain.
What do you want to see changed in Motel 6?
Do you see Motel 6 growing into a successful brand, while staying true to its economy heritage?
