I've read on other forums where people build a good rapport with a hotel and have been able to book a night or two and never show up and still get the credit. I think this maybe a rare occurrence, but it still may not hurt to introduce yourself and try to build a relationship.
I don't know if this is really a good idea.. hotels don't just make money on the room... they make money when you use their services (dining, internet, movies, minibar, etc). I'd think the hotel manager would rather have someone physically there.. versus a no-show who has zero chance of additional revenue potential.
