Having done work in the grocery sector, the profits are much healthier than that (whether by product or category or overall gross profit) never mind what the additional fees vendors pay plus the additional spending that comes from maximizing loyalty points.
What will be very interesting (and challenging) is does Sobeys go with a national loyalty program (and a different Bank for their CC). This could be the "option" CIBC is looking for.
Or do they keep it adhoc with Club Sobeys points and Air Miles with a bad conversion towards AP.
