My wife and I were on a CRJ-700 going from IAD-ORF recently. As you know you have essentially no carry on on this jet so everything is gate checked. You leave the bags on the tarmac, and someone is supposed to load them. Well we were delayed on the ground in IAD for an hour, and at the start of the delay it started to rain. Heavily. But no one was there to put the bags in the belly of the plane. They stood there, in the heavy rain, for over 50 minutes. Passengers could see their bags getting soaked and several started to yell at the flight crew to do something. One girl started crying because she had her computer in her bag. (yeah, I know, but she probably never flew on an RJ and had no idea her small bag would not fit). She tried to get off the plane (they use stairs for this flight) but the crew refused her. She had to sit and watch her bag soak in the rain for almost an hour, crying about ruining her new MacBook Air computer. Captain kept telling us he was calling urgently for help, but could not get anyone to come.

I wonder if UA covered that?
