I handle short layovers just by knowing where I need to go in the airport and planning accordingly. Knowing your way around an airport is essential. If need be, and you have a short connection and are nervous, you could always upgrade to economy comfort seats so you're towards the front of the plane... traveling with a larger carry-on can slow you down so you might consider checking it (especially if you have a flight on a plane that requires you to plane side check it)... and wear a good pair of shoes. MSP is my least favorite for connections, but I haven't missed one yet. There is an app (FlightBoard) that you can download that will show you the gates in airports so you don't have to spend time looking for your connection on a monitor once you get inside as well.
