American has allowed us to do this many times. I believe the first time the kids were 7/10 and sat in the front row of coach while we sat in the back row of first/business LAX-MIA-CUR. We are flying to Spain in the fall, the kids will be 11/14 and we are already upgraded with SWU's and the kids are not LAX-JFK-MAD.
