Just back from my 1st trip to Bali. It is worth the long long journey. I had 5 nights at Hyatt Sanur and enjoyed it very much. Then we moved to Ubud for 3 nights and 1 night in Nusa Dua.

We didn't do much but still time flew by. Here are some things to note:

Sunset time was around 6pm. I thought this was really early and made the day seem much shorter.
Traffic is a concern if you want to move between north and south side of the island. It would take about 2 hours one way unless it's a weekend or very early AM or late PM.
In Sanur, there are many tour desks on the streets for trip to Nusa L. I am sure you can find diving trips. The boats are located about 10 minutes south of Hyatt.
Jetlag made us get up really early and go to the bed early. This is probably good for diving.
Ubud is great. So much to see and do.
Nusa Dua is all resorts. I much preferred Sanur.
