You used to get points credited when you made the reservation, so the system would think that you had the necessary points when you applied, so you would apply, and then cancel the reservation and get a refund.
Now, you only get points credited when you actually make the trip (as with airlines). So I expect that the system will only let you apply after you have made the qualifying journey ("you need to have made at least one trip with Eurostar in the last three months worth £250 or more").
Thanks, that does make sense.
I understand one can get refunds on trips not made after the date (two months I think it is), so may try and book something for tomorrow, not take it, and see if that works)...!
