Envoy (and international first class in general) is one of the worst value propositions in the history of travel. In what other realm of reality is it reasonable to pay a $50-200/hour premium for 6-8 hours of marginally better food and comfort? Would you pay $50-200/hour more for an upgraded hotel room? For a better seat in a theater?
so here's my assumptions (and please let me know if I'm right or wrong)

1. You do not have elite status on US Airways (or any other airline for that matter).
2. You do not do that much international traveling.
3. You have never flown in business class or first class on an international flight.

I say this because of your post which I quoted. For me (and mostly travelers that I know) unless its business or first class on an international flight WE WON'T GO, NO KIDDING!!!

Why you ask, I consider flying in coach on an international flight to be a far worse experience than even going to a thick fingered proctologist )-:
I do have status on US (albeit Silver) and have flown Envoy three times courtesy of my employer. I also have sampled the international and domestic FC products of AA and UA. I fly internationally 3-5 times per year. This by no means makes me an expert, of course.

But I would never, ever pay $1000 (or more!) for 6-8 hours of "comfort." It's complete insanity. In what other setting is this something one would even consider? I'm afraid many of us have fallen prey to marketing hype and can't see that the golden goose is in fact not made of gold at all but rather of subpar Chilean wines, rubbery steaks, and "almost" layflat seats.

(Unless you have above 5-10 million or so in net worth -- buy your Envoy ticket and one for me too! More power to you if so. )
