I'm not sure you're going to get much response on this from TK flyers who live in TK.
The government there has a habit of locking people up based on online comments/activity. They're widely seen as second only to China in internet meddling and #1 in locking up journalists. This has been called out by NYT, The Economist, The Daily Telegraph, and on and on.
During the past few weeks there have been many reports of people being arrested and detained based on their twitter/facebook posts.
As you point out, the people of Turkey are very warm and approachable, their police and government (basically Tayyip Erdogan) are sadly doing the the country a terrible disservice.
