If you search some creative routings you may be able to find even low awards, or medium awards on other routings.
It is also possible to put award tickets on hold for a limited period of time, so you may want to do that.
If you're working for a company, shouldn't they be covering your ticket?
Thanks for the reply-
How would I go about checking other routings? I've been searching just within the Delta site using the book award travel function.
I did put my ideal ticket on hold, hoping I'll hear about my schedule before the hold expires.
The company covers airfare from the "gateway" city (SFO) to the destination country (Mongolia) but I am required to get myself to the gateway city. This is a volunteer-ish position in that all they provide is airfare and all you have to do is herd some cats along the way.
The trip leaves July 9th, so I was already planning on coming in a day early, but we return on the 25th, so I was hoping to take the latest departing red-eye that night, versus spending all day the 26th getting back to the east coast.
