I called the number from the thread noted in post #4 today about my AAdvantage Gold card today. I didn't say I was considering cancelling, but said I was wondering if there are any available offers to waive the annual fee. Initial response was, "Let me look." Agent came back and said sorry, no offers are available.

I then referred to my other cards (Plat and Amex AAdvantage) and said I was trying to consolidate cards and a lot of blah, blah, blah (stuff I just made up at the moment and don't remember was it was) as well as some "small talk." Citi agent then said, "Let me look to see if there's anything else available."

YES....fee refunded with 5 qualifying purchases in three months! Yes, please.

BTW, my AMEX is linked to the Gold card and has the fee waived every year. You might want to look into this if your AMEX has a fee.

I wish they would eliminate the foreign transaction fee like the United Explorer card has recently done..
