As a real live example about - friend of mine flying to Barbados has choice of BA or Virgin.

Flying Y - compares the price BA wins. Happy days. We're chatting in pub about how he's looking forward to his holiday - and the topic of selecting seats comes up. At this stage he is one pissed off customer (' I may as well fly easy jet' etc etc).

He will now fly there every 18 months (parents in law have retired there) and now won't look at BA on principle.

Seat selection is amazinginy emotive. (As the topics here testify). Fly club pay seat selection feels like a rip off. I understand the argument that says it's not but if it FEELS like a rip off it may as well be.
