On my one visit at IAH the attendant took me directly to one of the showers and left me there. The shower was in private room and was clean and well maintained. There was even a free pressing service which I took advantage of for my wrinkled pants while I was in the shower.
It was very nice. I don't think I'd do it before a flight if I was coming from an office. I would if I had spent the day walking around outside in the summer, though!
Lensman is spot on. The showers (4) are on the 4th level of the UC lounge @ IAH (there are 5 UC lounges, so this refers to the one in the E councourse, between Gates E 11 & E 12. They are HUGE - much bigger than any I have seen @ LHR. for ex. I did not use the garment press service, but it has two doors, so your suit is pressed while you clean up!They are also super-busy - I had to wait 10 minutes.
The staff member on duty (Betty) is very nice. The lounge opens at 5 am weekdays until 11:30 pm.
