The ending to my saga is ... I was given the 50% voucher rm rate (5780++) but wasn't told this until morning of check-out so was not able to use the AFB downstairs. Staff told me that they are still honoring the 50% vouchers and when they booked me they assumed I had this voucher from previous years.
