On a more serious note, it seems to me that the carding of obvious adults is spreading.

I live in NYC, and 10 or so years ago I was almost never carded anywhere - I even remember being in a bar with someone who was clearly under 21, and the bartender just told us to make sure he didn't order a drink.

Today it seems bars check IDs far more frequently. Even some of the divier gay bars in the East Village have big, burly guys checking IDs at the door on weekends - and that's relatively new. In fact, when I first moved to NYC at about 30 I remember being impressed with how they really didn't ID people - it just seemed rather bohemian and louche

I've also noticed that in the past couple of years bars in Toronto have begun checking IDs at the door. That blew my mind because I don't think I had been carded anywhere in Canada, ever, before a couple of years ago.
