Stayed there with the wife and 2 small children on a night from Thursday to Friday.
My wife forgot her handbag in the room. We checked out at about 8h and came back at 18h to claim the bag, we were 100% sure that it had been left in the room.
The reception clerk said that they had not found anything

I insisted and the clerk took me to the room, the room had been cleaned and the handbag was gone. I insisted again and the clerk took me to the cleaning room, I confronted both the cleaning manager and cleaning lady, both denied to have found the handbag

and the bag was not in the cleaning/utility room. I asked for the the Manager's name and insisted that I would write a complaint.
The following day I canceled all of my wife's credit cards and 2 days later went to the police to report the theft. The police officer called the hotel and asked to speak with the Manager. Initially the Manager said that no handbag had been found, the policeman insisted and after waiting on the phone for a few minutes the Manager finally informed him that they had actually found the handbag.
The handbag was eventually sent to my home address (all the contents were still there), with an apology letter that stated "We are sorry for the problems with your bag. We found it a few hours after you spoke to our colleague".
If the bag was found a few hours after I returned to the hotel to claim it, then why didn't the hotel staff call me or write an e-mail to inform me?!

this would have saved me time and costs from cancelling credit cards and hours spent at the police station.
Overall I have a very strong impression that the handbag was nearly stolen by the cleaning staff, and that the Manager was able to recover it when he received the phone call from the police.
If that is indeed the case I would have preferred to have heard the truth rather than such a bad lie.I hope that the cleaning lady is sacked and that the hotel takes more care in the selection of the staff.
