So if she arrives in Pier C or Pier A and has to go to Pier B for the connection, wiy ll she still have to go through Passport control and/or Security?

On the IOS map, I see Childrens play area in Pier B, is it any good or mainly for younger kids?

Is there any Lufthansa lounge at all that will allow to purchase 1-day pass like they do here with airline lounges in US?
If your wife is connecting from non-Schengen to non-Schengen there is no need to go through passport control. However, she will almost certainly have to clear security.

I have only seen children's play areas in Pier A/Z but if the one in Pier B is similar it is mainly for younger children.

Unfortunately there's no Lufthansa Lounge which allows paid access and the only lounge in T1 which she can pay to enter is landside.
