Without a visa LH can't let her out of the transit concourse, German Federal Police is pretty picky about that. No exceptions, I'm afraid.

Weather delays still require the airlines to provide care in the EU. Unlike the US, where weather delays mean the airlines are absolved of care by law. (They still accommodate elite customers, but don't have to)
