I wonder if this thread will go with as many responses as the ones about rearranging the entire cabin so that parties can sit together.

What you did sounds like a reasonable, rational, mature adult thing - you're separated for a few hours, you wouldn't otherwise chit-chat with each other, you're happier in these specific seats. ^^^
