I am in the process of checking out how the properties compare in San Francisco and Fort Lauderdale between Marriott and Starwood..
But I must admit as some have said ... YMMV and the grass in not necessarily greener !
At least in the centre of San Francisco I prefer the Marriott properties overall compared to the Starwood properties- the JW and the REN for example are two well priced options and compare favorably to the St. Francis and the Palace. On the upper end I prefer the Ritz Carlton to the St. Regis however they are very different hotels- and I think MR wins out.
Ft. Lauderdale? I don't know- don't stay there a lot and when I have it is in the hotel downtown (CBD) that is not a chain and has no chain affiliations.
