IME the required check-in time adjusts when the flight is delayed. So a flight posting a departure delay of 20 minutes gives you another 20 minutes to get a BP via the kiosks. At least that is always how it has worked at AUS.
But once again, check-in time is completely irrelevant here; I was already checked in and just doing a reprint. I've reprinted 5 min before boarding before when I can't locate my BP or some such and without issue. The oddity for me was getting a different reaction from this particular machine.
