There is the occasional A330 service to Adelaide as well - was that the aircraft type you flew on to ADL?
That makes sense about the Friday departure. I was on the 767 on Friday and it must have been the inbound service from Sydney. I suspect that yours was the outbound. I had a 'refurbished' 767 on Friday and it wasn't quite what I had expected. Hardly anything had been touched apart from the head rest covers and seats in Business class. Everything else was the same.

The iPad did work well but it was annoying that it had to be turned off before landing and could only be used after the seat belt sign had been turned off after take off. With in-seat screens, they can be used from the moment you board. I know the reasons, why this is but it does make the iPad a less desirable solution.

I do think it's a good idea QF are rolling this out on the 767, presumably for the longer routes such as SYD-CNS that the aircraft operates.
There is a flap that you lift up and then tuck the cover into. It's quite secure and the bonus is that whilst it is touch screen, the fact that it hangs there absorbs the movement that people with heavy fingers tend to make when using in-seat touch screens.
