I tried using a non-airport issue bag (which I thought fitted the rules) I was stopped and told I could not use it. Luckily I also had an EDI standard issue bag with me which saved me leaving the security area and re-queuing, but as it was flatter, less fitted inside so I had to lose several liquid items. I wouldn't risk trying it again.
