I've seen the Ear Planes and basically scoffed at them, but I also heard from someone the other day, who also has extreme pain during descent, saying that they work like a charm. You say that though you used them they were still "slightly uncomfortable". If indeed your pain is of the sort that, when unaided by EarPlanes, that you feel as though you're going to begin screaming from the pain, and it's been reduced to "slightly uncomfortable" then that's something (along with the Mucinex) that might save me from wasting so much time in travel-time to distant locations. Currently I must either take trains or drive. Air travel has been a big No-No for me. I just can't take it. Hopefully you'll get this message, and let me know how it's worked out for you and if indeed you suffer from the kind of aforementioned agony of ear and eustacian tube.
