Day 10 - Ho Chi Minh City & Mekong Delta - part 3

We were seated at a table in a room with no walls and served a lunch of soup with some sort of meat in it, spring rolls, elephant ear fish served in fresh spring roll wrappers, steamed prawns and cat fish with lemongrass and rice. The meal finished with a plate of fresh pineapple pieces.

The grey clouds had rolled in as we ate lunch and the guides decided it would be best to make tracks back to the boat. We walked for about 7 minutes and re-boarded our boat just as the rain started. This was our first rain for the whole trip. We then motored back to the river and came out of a canal not far from where we started.

The rain had stopped by this time and after a quick loo stop we hopped back in our bus for the 2 hour ride back to Saigon.

This afternoon and evening were free so after a break back at the hotel we wandered around the large market opposite before indulging in some Fanny ice cream.

We then walked up the street and into a Trung Ngyuen coffee shop, a bit like the Starbucks of Vietnam. By the way I think Saigon must be the coffee capital of Vietnam; there seems to be a coffee shop on every block.

The shop was very similar inside to a Starbucks and was modern and clean. We ordered a couple of ice coffees and sat back to watch hundreds of motor scooters go by outside. This was an exercise in the surreal. We were in a modern shop sipping iced coffee while flags with the hammer and sickle were flapping in the street outside and the Star Spangled Banner was playing on the music system in-store.
