A thorough clearout in the boardroom can be politically valuable, but I am not sure that this is called for now.

By respected industry people, do you mean the airline industry? transportation industry? or business in general?

I think it's unfair to suggest that the current board are not respected in business--this is not a crop of government patronage appointees, these are serious business people, most of whom run (or have run) companies of their own.

If you are talking about bringing in avaiation industry people, I think that is misguided. Directors are not managers--in almost every industry, except banking (which lives by a very different set of rules), placement of industry insiders on a company's board is the quickest way to move the board from corporate governance into management intervention--a recipe for disaster.
