I regularly use the Dutch / international code when making Hilton reservations under the AAA rate. I only once was asked to show my card. This was in Germany, when handing over my card, they said this is not an AAA card. I said, I know, it is the Dutch international affiliate and I used the code given on the back. They did then honor the rate, but made a copy of my card and said they would let me know if it was not ok - never heard anything.
