Aircraft utilization is a good thing, since they can't make money if the leave the plane sitting on the ground, regardless of configuration.
This reminds me of the olden days when they used to fly 777 and 747 on mid-con repositioning flights.
Yup! I remember that for a short period of time UA was flying a 747 LAX-SFO for repositioning...it continued on to NRT and UA served a full int'l breakfast on the short route. I remember the FAs pushing carts "uphill" and stowing them just short of touchdown in SFO. Those were the days!!
