Some of us did a traditional speed test with very variable results. Explanation from Panasonic : unlike what we know on traditional wifi systems at home or at the office, there is no fixed bandwith but a dynamic one here. It's allocated depending on your needs (and what's available). From a practical standpoint, if you do nothing but measure you have chances to get poorer scores than if you measure while loading a couple of pages at the same time.
From my experience it was more than ok to use email (even with big attachments, tchat, use google docs etc. Uploading a 800 Mo pictore to twitter was more difficult but not because of the connection nor its reliability) but because of twitter's time out.
The guys told me I could even try to watch youtube but risk of lack was important, what sounded logical to me due to the limits you mentioned.
In short it was good for nearly all my home/biz needs. But video streaming or online gaming will have to wait until I'm back on the ground.
One more thing : Oledel mentioned a free online tv accessible from the portal for free. It worked quite well and we watched the French Open in full screen on his iPad and my 15" MacBook Pro. Quality was good for one reason : even if streamed to many devices there is only one download coming through the satellite, what shows the system is reliable and efficient at least to some extent.
And, of course, the connection was two ways with, as usual, better performances for downloads than uploads.
