We only lost the connection twice but was normal. Each time the system had to switch to another satellite there's a one minute black out but you don't have to re-log once the connection is back.
FYI on a CDG-JFK or even CDG-LAX trip, 3 satellites are used. The first over Europe, another over the ocean (90% of the trip) and the last one over the US. We were told that the KL flight to Panama was supposed to use 4 satellites and a CDG-SIN, for example, 4 or 5.
Thanks for the information. And what about speed? Satellite is usually one-way directional (download) with a very bad response time. Do you know how they send data from the aircraft to the satellite ?
