Hello!

I am very new to all of this and am a bit confused. I did some searching and came up with the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card as being a great card, considering their sign up bonus of some large number of points if you spend over 3,000 in 3 months. I just signed up for the card 2 weeks ago and was approved and have been using it. I used it today to book travel, but didn't know what to fill out for the airlines frequent flyer miles number? As I understand it, I am not signed up for any airline frequent flyer program, but a friend of mine said that I really should. Is signing up for a specific airline program compatible with using my chase card to get points that I can then redeem for airline points?

Sorry I guess I a bit confused between using my chase card to get points that I can then use on an airline, and the points the airline gives you directly for being part of their frequent flyer program.

Any help would be great thanks!
