Just following up after my stay at both properties in YXE last wknd. I agree with the comments from both canalskater and fizzer.

The Four Points is less than 2 years old and already looks far older than that. The building was clearly built 'on the cheap' and it shows. I could hear conversations from people in the hallways and the floors both above and below my upgraded suite as well as every footstep - hence, no sleep without earplugs, if the hotel is full and there are a lot of kids (which it appears there are on wknds). Also, they have managed to clutter up the Front Desk area with a non-brand standard 'gift shop' with crap, the door to the back office is propped open showing stacked accounting boxes down the hallway. The suite itself was tacky with non-brand standard bath products and no glasses could be found. Plus, no Starbucks in the adjacent 'power centre' so, needless to say, I left after one night.

The move downtown was a bit tougher than I expected it would be. The Delta Bessborough has gone thru a full renovation and while the lobby is meh, the room I was shown, for 20 CAD less on a wknd special was very well done. The Cavalier Front Desk was great and once they noticed I was going across the street to check out a room, they sweetened the pot a bit. Needless to say, they won me over. Their rates tend to be high, like most of Saskatoon, but the long, long overdue renovations are well done. They are finally more than 60% complete so be warned, but I was pleased. The only odd aspect of the exterior is that their entrance was dug up at some point over the winter or spring and no one has repaired it as yet (City responsibility likely but its not becoming of a hotel in downtown).

Thank you for the feedback on the property comparisons, I should have heeded those but thought I would would give the Four Points a chance. My bad.
