I am now working as an academic consultant in the New York area, and will need to be renting cars more frequently, generally for two to four week periods. My needs are not high maintenance and I am not a fussy person.
Every situation I look into, the Hertz price is significantly higher than Enterprise. So, can anyone tell me if I should ditch the security I have generally had with Hertz (never been really disappointed) and save what can be as much as $100-$150 by going with Enterprise?
Thanks for your help, all!!
Where in the "New York area" will you be, and how far are you willing to travel to pick up your rental car? I have frequently gotten very good weekly rates in Nassau County at the Avis/Budget locations in Lynbrook (Avis location RKC, Budget location LN9), and in New Hyde Park (Avis location AB8, Budget location N4P). Each is a short walk from public transportation, and I believe each will -- with prior arrangement -- also pick up from the local Long Island Rail Road station.
Because these locations are not in NYC, I have been able to use free-day and dollars-off coupons that are not honored in NYC. And, on weekly rates, there is sometimes no extra charge for returning the car to Manhattan, or to LGA/JFK/EWR.
