From my experience, that's only the case if the impeded person or people is not in your party. If all three of you are in the same group/family, then you
can do what you want. That said, our kiddo loved to look out the window...
(and it was nice to not have to climb over the seat to get out)

When we had babies and flew AS, they would pre board those with young kids. I usually went first and install the seat before my wife arrived with a higher boarding group number. Then all we had to do was plop the baby in his seat, and not block the aisle.
One of the benefits of status is that I would pre-board with the carseat and our carry-on(s) and install the seat (and store the bags) while they hung out and ran around until the last possible moment to board, at which point they could come on, drop kid in seat, and be set to go, minimizing time strapped into the seat...
