Plain vanilla economy tickets are still guaranteed a seat somewhere onboard, so all the leftover MCE seats are also assigned at check-in (free of charge)
AA is not going to let a flight leave only 2/3 full simply because they can't get the extra $16.00 on those empty seat's, MCE is only a enhanced seat, not a class of service upgrade. If not sold, they all get assigned at check in
