But the point of MCE isn't to fill it with non paying elites. It's to extract more revenue from their customers. I assume most of those non elites payed the $24+ to sit in an MCE seat. If AA lets Golds sit there for free, they'll be forgoing revenue.
I'd kind of hope their yeild analysis is more sophisticated than that because on that basis all frequent flyers are a cost rather than a revenue source. And thats the exact opposite of what they are.
