I haven't used a travel agent for years, maybe decades, but the interweb has surely made them redundant. They know about commissions, little else, in my view. (150 countries and counting.)
If you don't use a TA for booking air or crusie, then, it really depends on what level of travel you are accustomed to. If on your decades of travel around the world, you don't typically stay at luxury hotels and stay at more budget or mid-range options or have private accommodation, then I see why a TA wouldn't be as useful.
