Exactly what just happened to me.

This morning I found all my cards are closed, including the 2 Old Preferred cards on retention offers with only 2 GCs purchases out of actual needs.

GC purchases are cited as the offending source when I finally was able to talk to someone with some sort of authority. I was told that a resolution would be made Next Week.

Yet, all my accounts are closed overnight. May be the same time as others have reported. I know as of yesterday evening I was still able to see account activities without any pop up window informing me accounts were closed.

Having a high account balance regardless when the points were earned / on what card (Mine were 95% from PREM in years back), also a motivation by Citi to close accounts, or it so seems as there are a few of us who have not had the new 5x cards, and one person has not redeemed anything since Aug 2012, also got the AA.



GC is the No.1 cause, regardless it is not found on any T&C languages that this is a forbidden item, nor it is mentioned as ineligible purchase. As long as you have a 5x offer attached to your card, regardless it is new or retention and you have purchased GC, no matter how few, once your account is flagged, you are doomed.

High Account balance is the ultimate motivation.

That are the factors in my case.
