I don't understand why BA cancelled so many flights, what was wrong with just queueing them for the runway once it re-opened with 2 hour delays. I understand the ones using the aircraft that were diverted because they were out of position but the others I just don'y understand
As well as both runways shutting down for a while and then just one being used for a while after that, many aircraft diverted to other airports and getting them all back to LHR adds more complexity to the situation. Until they all return, the schedule gets further and further behind and therefore consolidation has to take place.
The airlines are not allowed to operate late at night at LHR so therefore cancellation just have to happen unfortunately.
