First Class on East Coast is actually rather civilised, on an evening departure you'll get a hot meal, wine, spirits etc. Just accept you're going to arrive late, enjoy a drink or two, and enjoy the journey. It can be really scenic around the border with England.
Not as civilised as it was. Especially if you have a food intolerance. They used to be able to cater to any food allergy, but now that it's such a limited menu of prepared food, I've found once too often that there is nothing suitable left for me to eat.
Thus, I prefer to fly now. Shame.
