If you have travel insurance you should be safe.

I'm sure BA will refund your costs if you're not insured, just make sure you get a receipt why purchasing the rail ticket.

They should cover the cost of the HEX+tube to Kings Cross as well.

Probably best to get the cheapest ticket you can at the station (if you're worried BA won't pay up too much), although it might be crowded so first class would be useful to get a seat.

Once you're home send in the receipt for the rail fare (and ticket if it's not collected by a barrier) to customer relations and wait for the refund. Mention the details of your flight too so that your airfare can get refunded.
