I highly recommend if you are not checking bags to go thru security in T1
If you're visiting and have a rental car and a lot of luggage, dropping off said luggage and getting BPs from curbside skycap at T3 works. Then return car and ride rental shuttle bus to T1. This is only worthwhile if you have a lot of luggage, as we were burdened with after Ms. Trash's visit to The Container Store near airport.
If you have a manageable amount of baggage to check, just take rental shuttle to T3 and endure the current lines. It's not worth riding the infrequent intra-terminal bus over to T1.
As suggested, with only carry-on, just go to T1 and (if needed) get BPs from communal check-in kiosks.
